Robert can assure you that I am a speed freak, too!
But the thing is that there are dozens and dozens areas in X# that can be further improved and new things to implement, some that are easy and some that need a lot of time and effort. So we need to prioritize those with the higher impact and put in lower priority things that are not that critical, especially if they are difficult to implement/improve.
Some months ago we did greatly improve the speed of raw dbf access, for realistic scenarios at least. Unfortunately I think nobody commented on that, but I understand it's much easier to notice a speed problem, than something that works fast enough
