Folder dissappeared?

Advice sought...
Yesterday i started my Synctool, which basically backups a folder with lots of subfolders to another drive. Usually there are about 20 files to copy - this time, it suggested 80k files with about 1.5GB :ohmy:
I thought there might be some fault, but found the main folder on backup indeed is gone. Nothing in paperbin ;(
If i for some strange reason accidentally deleted this folder manually, i'd have noticed, as this number of files doesn't dissappear instantly on a hard-disk. So, what might be going on? Would you suspekt the health of the drive? Or what??

Hi Karl,
most of the time Drag&Drop is the culprit.

your are truly a hero!
Started "Everything" and after some search my 87046 files were found, "deep, deep" below some other folders.
While no true harm would have been done, as i have a second backup, it's a relief

Hi Karl,
this is only a bit of experience......last week I found a folder on my customers server that I had to restore a few years ago from a backup.

I have also "lost" many folders like that myself

If you are using Explorer, you can even undo your last actions by pressing CTRL + Z (if you recognize it immediately).
