Bandol RC3

Post by wriedmann »

Hello,

IMHO it would be a good idea to have a Bandol RC3 before of the final release, mostly with DBFCDX fixes, so the RDD can be better tested before the release version.
Currently I'm using the RC2 DBFCDX RDD in production in read mode only, not writing any data.

+1
As the FTP-Write issue now is "closed", it should be tested ;)

Wolfgang,

I am planning to release an installer for the updated runtime and RDDs in the coming days.

After Chris fixed the ADS logical field issue we do run our e-mail background reader in Full X# mode in production without any issues (our own version of it). So all looks good so far!

An installer would be a good idea indeed, we now fixed it with everything Chris sent us.

That's very good to hear it works well for you, but just to be clear, the ADS RDD is way easier for us to make it work well, as it is just an interface between the dbf system of the X# runtime and the ADS libraries which are the ones which actually do the low level dbf handling job.

The native CDX, FPT and what not drivers are a completely different story, way more difficult to implement, as this is 100% X# custom code. I can confirm though that Robert made huge improvements in this area in the last couple weeks and I think it's looking good now, so an update will be released soon.

Hi Chris,
I was alway sure that the DBFCDX RDD would be a hard work, and I hope to check it out soon.
Once it is available, I will start using it internally and let you know.
Wolfgang
P.S. currently, in new software, I'm using the Advantage ADO.NET data provider to access ADS data, even in production environment. I need the DBFCDX and the ADS RDD "only" for the migration of VO applications and to access DBFCDX data of VO applications

And again I cannot express my gratitude and I believe on behalf of most of us, the appreciation for what the DevTeam and specially Robert is putting in to make X# the language it already is.

Robert, I think after the DBFCDX and VFP work you need to take a long vacation... You deserve it.

Johan,
RC3 is now almost finished with internal testing.
Then we'll wrap up the general release and by the 20th I'll go on holiday.

Italy this year (Trentino) for a nice hike in the Dolomites (Stelvio NP - Val di Sole).
We'll stay in several "Refugios" high in the mountains on our way.
I'll probably be exhausted in a different way when I get back but I am sure that it'll be worth the trip.

these are not the Dolomites, but nevertheless a wonderful place!
We (my wife and I) have planned a few hikes there for this summer, as it is not very distant from us.
