Some of you may have seen it by now:
our forum has been discovered by spammers.
They come to our site, register themselves and then start writing spam messages on the forums.
So far we have been able to recognize this fairly quickly, and we have deleted the messages and blocked the users and their IP addresses.
To prevent this from happening more frequently we we have now changed a setting on the forum:
the first message of a new user has to be approved by a moderator.
We apologize for the inconvenience.

Robert,
Yes I agree, it is a small convenience, but one has to do what is necessary. I am sure everybody will understand.

Robert,
Some forums have the option to require users to verify the registered email address before they are even allowed to post anything. I think a CAPTCHA would also prevent spamming robots from auto registration.

We have now also subscribed the website with stopforumspam.com.
That should also help to reduce spam.
